The Seasonal Shift: How To Prepare Your Patio For Spring

Posted by Renovator Mate on 09 Sep 2020

With the warmer spring months arriving, now is the time to prepare your patio for the season ahead. When the warmer weather arrives, you, your family and friends will want to spend more time out in the sunshine grilling, hanging out and entertaining on your patio. With a little preparation, you can be sure that your patio looks and functions great when spring arrives.

This is also a great time to consider any upgrades you want to make to your patio. Perhaps you want to upgrade to floorboards, install a fire pit or extend your patio space so you have more room to relax in those balmy evenings. Installing outdoor privacy blinds, erecting fencing, or planting trees can be fantastic ways to give your patio a little more privacy as you begin to use it more and more.

Whether you want to overhaul your patio before spring or simply dust it down for you and your family to enjoy, now is the time to start preparing your patio for the warmer weather ahead.

Start With A Thorough Clean

Before you begin getting your patio ready for spring you will need to spend a little time cleaning the space. Start by removing any debris, leaves and dirt from the surface as these can leave a stain on your patio if left alone. Removing the dirt from your patio will also allow you to identify any areas that might need repairs. Once your patio is free of debris, you can start cleaning it with an appropriate cleaning agent for your patio’s construction and treatments.

Arrange Your Outdoor Furniture

Nothing will make your patio more inviting and welcoming than having your furniture set up and looking great. If your furniture is made from timber, be sure to check over it for any signs of damage. You may need to paint or treat the furniture to bring it back to life after a long winter in the garage. Test out each piece of furniture to ensure it is working correctly, just in case it was damaged while in storage. Be sure to wash any cushions or pads you have to make sure they are fresh and odour-free.

Check Your Lighting

Bad weather and storms through the winter may have damaged your outdoor lighting without you realising. Switch on your lights and check all of your bulbs so you are ready to go when the time comes for your first spring barbecue. Take this opportunity to assess your lighting needs and install any additional lighting that you think will benefit the space. LED rope lights, tiki torches, wall sconces and string lights can all be very effective lighting options that can improve the ambience of your patio.

Add Some Greenery

Spring is the perfect time to select some planters for your patio to add a touch of greenery and vibrancy to your space. Speak to your local gardening centre about which plants will work best in your space. Homeowners with no gardening experience can still find plants that are low maintenance and that look great. With the right plants, you can create a beautiful, natural feel to your space that your family and your guests will love.

Get Your Patio Ready For The Warmer Months Ahead

With winter behind us, it’s time to start looking forward to more sunshine, warmer weather and more time outdoors. Taking the time to prepare your patio now for the warmer weather ahead will ensure that your space can accommodate you, your family and friends with ease. Whether you’re relaxing in the sunshine, entertaining friends or having a family barbecue, you want your patio to be an oasis of calm and tranquillity for you and your loved ones to enjoy. Prepare your patio correctly and you can look forward to a wonderful spring and summer enjoying time on your patio.
